Guide Review - Intronaut - 'Valley Of Smoke'
Progressive metal titans Intronaut release their third album, Valley of Smoke. Being not very familiar with Intronaut prior to this release, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with Valley of Smoke. I suppose that I was half expecting an exercise in post-metal, which is not really my cup of tea. But, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Valley of Smoke is mostly a light, progressive metal album with lots of soft tones and jazz influences.
Valley of Smoke emphasizes long instrumental passages of progressive rock and free form, slower paced jazz. Clean vocals, lots of guitar melodies, dynamic, fluid bass lines that really remind me of work from greats such as Steve DiGiorgio, and excellent percussion with time changes galore are all over Valley of Smoke.
In short, the musicianship displayed by all members of Intronaut is outstanding, and each instrument is given a chance to shine. As far as light, progressive rock goes, Valley of Smoke ranks with the best. Any metal that creeps into the sound will undoubtedly garner comparisons to bands such as Tool, and even Rush given the dynamic musicianship, arguably bands that lie outside of what is normally considered metal.
Truth be told, there are only a few hard hitting moments on Valley of Smoke with riffs, a speedy passage now and then, and rough vocals, all rooted within the realm of post-metal. Because of the decided lack of relative heaviness, Valley of Smoke is probably not going to appeal to the average metal fan. But, I’ve been won over simply because the combination of musicianship, songwriting, and production is near flawless while still retaining nods to metallic roots.
I’ll be the first to admit that Intronaut lie outside of my genres of choice and my knowledge base. However, if any errors or faults lie in Valley of Smoke, I cannot find them.

Mas, fiquei agradavelmente surpreso ao descobrir que oValley of Smoke é um álbum de metal progressivo com muitas tonalidades suaves e influências do jazz.Valley of Smoke enfatiza longas passagens instrumentais de rock progressivo e de forma livre, jazz ritmo mais lento. vocais limpos, muitas melodias de guitarra, dinâmica, linhas de baixo de fluido que realmente me faz lembrar do trabalho de grandes nomes como Steve DiGiorgio e percussão excelente com o tempo muda em abundância estão por todo Vale da Fumaça.Em suma, a musicalidade apresentada por todos os membros Intronaut é excelente, e cada instrumento é dada uma chance de brilhar.
