Com sede em Chicago pintor Steve Seeley pode ter um Master of Fine Arts da Ohio State University, em gravura, mas é o seu firme aperto da cultura pop de pintura e que nos fizeram cair no amor com sua arte.

gostos amplo de Steve em quadrinhos, super-heróis e monstros japoneses (kaiju), juntamente com sua capacidade de combinar aqueles com uma matriz de resultados de flores e elementos naturais em um disparate, embora agradável, fusão que nunca fica chato.

Para esta exposição (sua primeira exposição individual na Galeria Rotofugi, embora ele tenha contribuído para muitas das exibições do nosso grupo) Steve tem, obviamente, mergulhado em quadrinhos e super-heróis e acrescentou seu toque habitual de humor.

Temos duas novas exposições na galeria agora, com a recepção de abertura hoje à noite, sexta-feira, 17 de setembro de 7 10:00. We've got two new exhibits up in the gallery now with the opening reception tonight, Friday, September 17, 7-10PM. Join us for solo exhibits by James Marshall (aka Dalek) and Steve Seeley, plus music by DJ Sean Doe and snacks by Fritz Pastry. Both James and Steve will be at the gallery to chat with fans...hope to see you there too!

Como o pai que comprou o Arcade Fire álbum depois que viu o preview de Where The Wild Things Are para descobrir somente que seu colégio filhos com idade sabia sobre Win Butler, como, anos atrás. Quero dizer, vamos lá. VOCÊ SABE Às Vezes Como VOCÊ Descobrir redescobrir (ou) como bandas Famosas do Bem, formas e quadril Menos VOCÊ tão Sente Espécie de quadrado? Como o pai Que Comprou o Arcade Fire álbum DEPOIS VIU Que o preview de Where The Wild Things Are n Descobrir Somente Que Seu colégio Filhos com idade Sabia Sobre Win Butler, como, anos atrás. Quero Dizer, vamos lá Mencionei brevemente um acontecimento na minha vida conhecido como "Tequila Night". Ele terminou comigo passando na minha cama cedo e terrível acordar às três da manhã, muito inquieto para voltar a dormir. Eu geralmente sou um riser tarde (leia-se: meados de tarde é quando eu rolar para fora da cama na maioria dos dias), por isso, quando meu companheiro de quarto acordou às 8 para me encontrar, não só fora da cama, mas também muito alerta, era muito bonita, uma ocasião especial . Temos café da manhã e fomos ao shopping onde eu tenho que escolher as roupas para o trabalho do meu colega de quarto da "fantasia". Foi muito divertido. Eu me senti poderosa. Além disso, eu não tenho os pés em um shopping em anos para que a viagem foi interessante, um pouco como a sobrecarga sensorial, apesar de, realmente, nada de extraordinário aconteceu ... Até que nós fizemos o nosso caminho numa dessas cadeias de lojas de calçados realmente overpriced que se especializa em saltos impraticável com quantidades obscenas de glitter. Como o meu colega tentou coisas, eu vagava sem rumo até que algo chamou a minha orelha. Que alguma coisa? "Aperte Up", de The Black Keys. You know how sometimes you discover (or re-discover) the hippest bands in the, well, least hip ways and you just feel sort of square? Like the dad who bought the Arcade Fire album after he saw the preview for Where The Wild Things Are only to discover that his college aged offspring knew about Win Butler, like, years ago. I mean, come on.

Well, I think I have the lamest anecdote of all time. I mean, I'm a pretty happenin' gal. I keep one of my heavily pierced ears to the ground at almost all times. I check out blogs. I read Daytrotter religiously. I go to shows. I support local music. So, nine times out of ten, I know my shit. There is, however, that one time out of ten where I drop the ball.

I mentioned briefly an occurance in my life known as "Tequila Night". It ended with me passing out in my bed dreadful early and waking up at three in the morning, too restless to go back to sleep. I'm usually a late riser (read: mid-afternoons is when I roll out of bed most days) so when my roommate awoke at 8 to find me not only out of bed but also quite alert, it was pretty much a special occasion. We got some breakfast and headed to the mall where I got to pick out clothes for my roomie's "fancy job". It was fun. I felt powerful. Plus, I haven't set foot in a mall in years so the trip was interesting, a bit like sensory overload, even though, really, nothing out of the ordinary happened... Until we made our way into one of those really overpriced chain shoe stores that specializes in impractical heels with obscene amounts of glitter. As my counterpart tried things on, I wandered aimlessly until something caught my ear. That something? "Tighten Up" by The Black Keys.

Despite only having listened to Brothers, the latest effort from the Keys, a handful of times with a fairly inattentive mindset, I knew right away that the song that had me so enraptured was by The Black Keys. Auerbach and company have done a good job crafting a signature sound and I'm sure "Tighten Up" seeped into my conciousness somehow, as it was the "single" off the record (Thus explaining it's presence in shoe stores!). Instead of thinking "What IS this song? It's a jam!", I found thinking "Damn... I have to give that Black Keys record another spin. Like, now."

Regardless, revisiting the record was the best decision I've made since I decided to start a weekly column of sweet cover songs. (Not that I'm bragging about that cool feature or anything.) Everything about Brothers is the Black Keys, through and through, from the fuzzy, seductively distorted vocals to the bluesy stomp and the grungy guitar. The album, at fifteen tracks, seems to wear on a bit at times but the strand out tracks far out number the unmemorable cuts so what more can you ask for, really?

O incomparável Mike Mignola teve uma nomeação para "Melhor Comic Book Writer Award" em seu trabalho sólido ao longo do ano passado, incluindo BPRD: 1947, Hellboy No México, Hellboy: The Wild Hunt, Witchfinder: Na Serviço de Anjos e Hellboy: The Bride of Hell. The incomparable Mike Mignola scored a nomination for the "Best Comic Book Writer" award based on his heaping plate-load of solid work over the past year, including B.P.R.D: 1947, Hellboy In Mexico, Hellboy: The Wild Hunt, Witchfinder: In The Service of Angels and Hellboy: The Bride of Hell. Mr. Mignola's certainly been busy, and all of us here at Dark Horse are jazzed he's getting some recognition for his writing efforts. (Mignola's cover for Hellboy: The Bride of Hell recently won a Harvey award, in case you missed it.) Head over to Spike's site to vote for Mr. Mignola now, and hey, why not tell your friends to do the same?!

Dark Horse is proud to have two nominees in the "Best Comic Book Artist" category, as well! Both Jill Thompson's work on Beasts of Burden and Fábio Moon's work on B.P.R.D.: 1947 and Sugarshock should be counted at the tip-top of the cream of the crop when it comes to great comics art. It's nice to see that Spike agrees! Go vote for Ms. Thompson or Mr. Moon for "Best Comic Book Artist" now! Unfortunately, you can't vote twice from a single IP address (to my knowledge, at least.) So, I suggest logging in a vote for one of these exceptional artists and then hitting up a local wifi hotspot and voting for the other. Just a friendly suggestion, as I know the choice between B.P.R.D. and Beasts of Burden is enough to make you go bonkers!

Here at Dark Horse, we definitely pride ourselves on our horror comics. As the PR guy, I sent a bunch of great books over to Spike for Scream consideration and while I think everything I sent over was worthy of recognition (Hey, I'm biased!), it's great to see three exceptional talents like Mr. Mignola, Ms. Thompson and Mr. Moon who worked on such excellent and eerie titles nominated for this award! Congratulations Mike, Jill and Fábio!

Dois detetives da polícia de Nova York investigam uma série de assassinatos sangrentos. Two New York police detectives investigate the latest in a series of bloody murders. They stand by as a psychic hired by the department 'communicates' with the victim, experiencing a vision of his death at the hands of some fanged predator. When the detectives, Len and Phil, ask her what she saw, she has a vision of them as corpses.
Later, Jack Russell enjoys lunch at a Chinese restaurant with his girlfriend Roxanna and friends Fred and Katey. At the meal's end, Jack opens his fortune cookie to find a message requesting a meeting, signed, "Your friend".

That night, Jack is picked up by a limousine in which rides the little man who led Jack on his recent journey of self-discovery. The man discusses the serial killings plaguing New York City and tells Jack he is to visit The Underworld, a hidden nightclub catering to supernatural customers. Jack, already familiar with the club, is dropped off there and enters. As he sits at the bar, some punk vampires begin to hassle him, and the altercation erupts into a brawl. The scuffle is halted by the Ghost Rider (Noble Kale), and Jack joins him at his booth to ask for assistance regarding the murders. Steven, leader of the vampire punks, calms him cohorts, assuring them their chance will come.
Kale, obligated to the rules of the nether-realm he now reigns over, tells Jack only that the killer is present in the club. He also warns Jack to be wary of those he becomes indebted to. Jack turns to leave, and Steven offers an apology to him before he exits the nightclub.
