Well, the latest box-office results for Tron: Legacy are in, and they aren't pretty, making this the fourth high-profile film in three years to make a huge impact at Comic-Con while leaving the rest of the world unimpressed. So what's gone wrong?
       
Over the last few years, a number of movies that were near and dear to geek hearts made splashy presentations at Comic-Con and blew the roof off the place, setting up fan and studio expectations for these movies to become blockbusters. But with the exception of one, all of them failed to deliver. What happened, and why was excitement at the biggest gathering of fans in the world unable to carry over into the real world?
Here are four Comic-Con favorites that couldn't close the deal—plus one that did.

Kick-Ass

What was supposed to happen? After going down a storm at 2009's Comic-Con, Kick-Ass's combination of satire, violence and shock value seemed assured of making it a smash with the rest of the public.
Box office: $48 million
What happened? Fans of the movie like to note that relative to its budget, Kick-Ass was a financial success. But the cult following for both the comic and its author (Mark Millar) was not enough to make it a crossover hit, and general audiences didn't understand its tone.

What happened? Despite a pretty strong opening weekend for an R-rated film, Watchmen pooped out quickly. Once again, the general public didn't seem that interested in a comic-based movie that didn't have the words Batman, Spider-Man or X-Men in the title. Plus, fans were split over how successful an adaptation it was, which led to fewer repeat visits.

H.R. Giger back for Alien prequel? Yes, says his wife

Ridley Scott has already come back to direct the new Alien prequel. Now another name crucial to the success of the original movie might be on board as well.

According to Bleeding Cool, Swiss artist H.R. Giger might be coming back to work on the prequel as well. Giger's wife, Carmen Scheifele, reportedly told a Swiss television program called Glanz & Gloria that her husband was going to re-team with Scott to do design work on the movie.
Giger's work on the first Alien, which included designs for the derelict alien spacecraft found by the crew of the Nostromo, the corpse of the long-dead "Space Jockey" and of course the Alien itself in all its forms, was iconic. His creations not only made Alien one of the most visually influential sci-fi films of the past 30 years but won the artist an Academy Award and exposed his work to a whole new audience. He did come back to do some work on Alien 3, but that was a less happy experience for the artist and many of his concepts were unused.
Now, we have to caution that the report by Bleeding Cool was taken from a German fansite called AVP Galaxy and translated into English via Google. Which means that, frankly, the whole thing should be taken lightly until there's any sort of official confirmation of Giger's involvement. In fact, we'd suggest being doubly suspicious since there have been a slew of Alien prequel rumors lately, none of which turned out to be true.
But if it is true, how cool would it be to have H.R. Giger returning to work on the Alien prequel? Would that be a major coup for Ridley Scott or what?

Na verdade, nós sugerimos a ser duplamente suspeita já que houve uma série de de rumores prequel do Alien,ultimamente, nenhuma das quais acabou por ser verdadeiro.
Mas se é verdade, o quão legal seria ter HR Giger retornar ao trabalho em Alien?Teria que ser um grande golpe de Ridley Scott ou o quê?

It is not a time for summer, nor a visit to the beach here in the USA, but showcasing the hyperrealistic work of Hilo Chen can at least take the East Coast to a warmer place. The subject matter of Chen's work is obviously provocative, and perhaps not for everybody, but the skill in the work is undeniable.

The 68 year-old Taiwan-born, New York-based Chen uses only oil paint on canvas, which would make seeing these pieces in person a must to get their full effect. Most of these paintings are from 2010, but Chen has been creating work in this vein for over 30 years.

The woman blew herself amid a crowd of men, women and children heading toward a food distribution center of the World Food Program in the Bajaur region on the Afghan border.
"Initially there was confusion as to whether the attacker was a man or woman but now we have established that (it) was a woman," senior government official Sohail Ahmed told Reuters.
Government officials in Bajaur said they had recovered the head, burqa and clothes of the bomber.
PREVIOUS WOMAN BOMBER IN 2007
It was the second such attack by a female militant in Pakistan. In the first episode, a woman detonated explosives near a military checkpost in the northwestern city of Peshawar in 2007, but she killed no one except herself.
On Saturday, the woman initially threw hand grenades at people heading toward the food center to receive aid before blowing herself up. Forty-three people were killed and more than 60 were wounded in the attack.
"If militants use more women for such attacks then it is going to be a very huge problem for the security forces," said Rahimullah Yusufzai, an expert on tribal and militant affairs.
"They don't have enough women (in the) police force and even (if) they have policewomen, because of our conservative culture, people don't want their women to be subjected to body searches. It's going to be a big problem."
The attack happened a day after battles between security forces and insurgents in the neighboring Mohmand region that killed 11 soldiers and 40 insurgents, the government said. Militants disputed the official death toll.
The Pakistani army has conducted a series of offensives in its lawless Pashtun tribal belt, known as the global hub of Islamist militants, in recent years, killing hundreds of militants and destroying many of their bastions.
But the insurgents have still been able to strike back and have kept up a campaign of suicide and bomb attacks across the country, killing hundreds of people.
"The militants' strongholds have been smashed...they are on the run and that's why they are now hitting soft targets," Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani told reporters in comments broadcast by local television.
