Aos 16 anos Alex Chilton tocou em uma banda de soul pop chamada BOX TOPS em 1972 formou Big star banda que influenciou bandas como THE POSIES,TEENGE FANCLUB, e GIGOLO AUNTS fato que o fez Mister Alex chilton voltar ativa nos anos 90 depois de 20 anos dois integrantes do The Posies Jhon river e Ken Strinfollow fizeram parte desta volta.
